Mister
Rogers' Neighborhood Sweater Drive 2008
Did you know that every one of the cardigans Fred Rogers wore on the show was
hand-knitted by his mother? Over the years, his cardigan sweater has come to
represent the gentle spirit, warmth, and nurturing many PBS viewers witnessed
every day in Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.
For
the fourth consecutive year, WSKG celebrates the life
and work of Fred Rogers with the Mister Rogers' Neighborhood
Sweater Drive. The Sweater Drive is a great opportunity
to inspire the "good feelings" among neighbors
in our community and to help make a difference for someone
in need. To date, WSKG has collected and distributed
over 5000 sweaters to individuals and families in Broome
County.
This
year the good feelings have further spread to communities
in our viewing and listening area. Our friends at the
Ostego County Retired Teachers Association of Oneonta
are conducting their second successful sweater drive
and two other communities are each planning one for next
year. The fact that this continues to gain momentum is
a true testament to the positive spirit of good works.
Be a neighbor and donate a gently used sweater at one
of our drop off sites.
