WSKG 2008 GENERAL AUCTION FAQ

Q: Why is the On-Air portion of the WSKG Auctions only one day this year?

A: The Auctions are being condensed to a new single night On-Air format that offers a faster-paced, high-energy event while minimizing program interruptions. The On-Air Auction date air time is May 3 from 5-11pm for General, where featured items will be auctioned live. The remainder of our Auction items will be available at wskg.org, where you’ll have even more chances to bid during the extended online portions of our Auctions. Items will be available for preview and bidding for one month - May 3 – June 3 for General.

Q: I haven’t received my Express Bidder number. Can they be used during the On-Air part of the Auctions this year?

A: Express Bidder numbers will no longer be issued due to the format change of the Auctions.

Q: Why are you only accepting credit cards as payment for Auction items?

A: Cash, checks or money orders will not be accepted as forms of payment for Auction items. To streamline the bidding and item pick-up process, credit cards will be required. All successful high bids will be charged at the conclusion of the Auction prior to pick-up.

Q: Can I return items if I decide I don’t want them later?

A: All sales are final. WSKG cannot accept responsibility for any discrepancy not reported to us at the time of sale. All property is sold “as is”. WSKG makes no warranties or representations of any kind or nature with respect to the property, and in no event will be responsible for the correctness or deemed to have made any representation or warranty of description, genuineness, attribution, provenance, historical period or condition of the property. No statement on this site, made at the sale, in the bill of sale or invoice, or in the script or elsewhere, shall be deemed such a warranty, representation or an assumption of liability.

Q: How is the mailing and/or shipping and handling cost calculated and what are per certificate charges?

A: Shipping is based first on whether or not an item is a certificate (which can be mailed) or merchandise (which requires being shipped).

o Certificates: Certificates can be sent via United States Postal Service (USPS). If the value of the certificate is under $100, the charge is $1.00 per certificate. This amount covers postage and handling. Postage can vary based on the weight of the materials that the donor included with the certificate.

o If the value of the certificate is $100 or more, the charge is $5.00 per certificate. Per certificate charges are based on total retail value of the items sent. This amount in turn covers postage, handling and the fee for Certified Mail. Certified Mail is used as a method of insuring your items and ensuring that they are delivered directly to you.
o Merchandise: Physical items can be sent via United Parcel Service (UPS). Pack ‘N’ Mail of Vestal, NY handles shipping arrangements and will directly bill your credit card for applicable shipping fees. Shipping fees are determined by Pack ‘N’ Mail, not WSKG.

Q: How do I know that I'm the high bidder?

A: High bidders for the On-Air Auctions will be contacted by telephone the same night of the Auction. High bidders for the Online Auctions will be contacted by telephone within 3 days of the Auction’s closing. Pick-up and/or shipping arrangements will be made at that time. To facilitate the efficiency of the confirmation and delivery process, we ask that you please wait to have a member of our Auction staff contact you. Once you confirm a bid, you cannot retract it without exceptional circumstances. Exceptional circumstances are limited to (1) clear typographical errors and (2) WSKG Public Broadcasting materially changing the description of the item after your bid. Exceptional circumstances do not include the User bidding on or winning a bid on multiple items, insufficient funds to pay for an item, or changing your mind. You, the User, accept and must comply with all the Auction terms, conditions, and requirements delineated on the WSKG Public Broadcasting auction screen. By making a bid, the User accepts all the terms and provisions of this User Agreement and agrees to be bound by the same.

Q: How will I get the items for which I am the high bidder?

A: All certificates and merchandise will be charged to your credit card prior to pick-up or shipping. Cash, checks or money orders cannot be accepted at the time of pick-up. Certificates can be sent via USPS and merchandise can be shipped via UPS. Shipping charges will be calculated, based on total weight and size, for buyers of more than one item. Pick-up and shipping arrangements will be made at the time of your confirmation call.

Q: How do I bid Online?

A: Log on to wskg.org and click on the “Auctions” link. Although you may browse the items without registering, if you would like to bid online, you must register as an online bidder. When you register, you will required to enter a valid credit card in addition to being asked for a user name. Your user name is any name you want it to be as long as no one else has already chosen that name. Your user name will be visible to other eBidders. Once you are registered, you will receive an e-mail with a password. You will then be able to log in with your user name and password and place bids.

Q: What if I have trouble bidding Online?

A: You may submit a bidder request through our Auction site’s Help Desk (under the “Help” menu) and it will be directed to the appropriate department. Most technical or site questions are primarily answered through our Online Auction provider, Auction Anything. Specific auction item questions are answered through the Auction Department. If you need immediate assistance, you may call Jennifer Zarrelli, Community Events Coordinator at (607) 729-0100 x375.

Q. How do Auction proceeds support WSKG Public Broadcasting?

A: The revenue generated through our Auction helps pay for the following:
Quality programming, such as NOVA, Frontline, Sesame Street, Antiques Roadshow and local productions such as our weekly arts series, Expressions, and New York State Emmy® award-winning documentaries like The Flood of ’35 and Glenn Curtiss: The Forgotten Eagle.

Quality educational services, being extended to our community through our Education Department. WSKG strives to educate the community about the best ways to view television through a national PBS outreach initiative titled Ready To Learn. These outreach services include free workshops for parents, childcare providers and other early childhood professionals and the distribution of children's books. Our Education Department also provides training sessions that show teachers how to integrate various instructional media types into their classroom curriculum.

Quality interactive, web-based materials, like WSKG's EdVideo Online for students and teachers to explore standards-based multimedia on-demand, enhancing classroom instruction and on-demand podcasts of our local programs and interviews.

These initiatives are funded, in part, by the revenue received by our Auctions.
